Trinity’s Junior Kindergarten program is designed to prepare students for the academic and social requirements of Kindergarten by introducing foundational reading and math concepts. At the same time, students are given time and space to develop classroom routines that are consistent with Lower School expectations.
Junior Kindergarten is a five-day-a-week, full-day program. Students participate in resource classes (art, music, physical education, and library) as well as weekly chapel service. Junior Kindergarten incorporates academic elements of Trinity’s Kindergarten program, such as reading readiness from SuperKids, the language arts program used through Grade 2 at Trinity, and beginning math concepts from Math in Focus (Singapore Math).
This unique learning environment is ideal for older four-year-olds and “young fives” who will benefit from a more flexible pace of instruction than what is followed in Kindergarten. It is designed for children who turn five between May and September and are developmentally in between preschool and Kindergarten. All students are assessed for readiness before enrollment in Junior Kindergarten.
