Anne Obara is currently the secretary for the Trinity Lutheran
Church School board as of October 2023. She has been a member
of Trinity Lutheran Church for over 40 years. Cliff and Anne were
married at Trinity in 1983 by a former pastor, The Rev. Tom
Bosserman. During those years, she served as the VP of the
church council, followed by the office of President, 2004-2005,
respectively. In addition, she has been active in the church as a
former nursery caregiver; then became the nursery supervisor.
She has served as a Sunday School substitute, the ushers/greeters
chair, a member of the altar guild as floral chair and altar
parament changer/cleaner. Currently, Anne serves on the
Worship and Music committee which she has served on for 15
years.
Anne’s background is in Marketing with a B.A. from Radford
College/University in 1981. After college, she began working for
the C&P telephone company, eventually called AT&T, as a
telephone salesman. Our first child came along about the time
that layoffs in the company began and Anne stayed home until
the second and last child came along. In her spare time this gave
her the opportunity to be a member of the Junior Woman’s Club
of Hilton Village. As a member, Anne enjoyed the chance to give
back to the community, in so many ways. During the almost 15
years working with the Juniors, Anne worked her way up to
Secretary, Vice President and then President of the club. A
connection with the husband of a club member gained Anne a
brief stint as a receptionist for an orthodontist which came along
in between the two children. Once our daughter started school, a
part-time job with Candid Color Photography was then offered to
Anne. She became the manager of a small group of employees
working to pick and package school and sport photos and then
deliver or mail them. After 10 years in the club and aging out, life
changed to focusing more on church matters. Council
involvement for me began in 2000. Then in 2004, there was a
rough start to my position as the president of Church Council
where the connection between the church council and the school
board began to deteriorate, thus “the time of great
unpleasantness” began. Many late meetings took place over the
course of about five months. After a year, with many church
members and several church staff members leaving, the
atmosphere was a bit contentious. It took us a good deal of time
as a church to go through Bridge Builders with Peninsula Pastoral
Counseling leading the way, to get back to a place of trust and
ability to work with the school board and in some cases, with each
other. Presently, Anne feels we are and have been for well over
10 years in a much better place between all entities.
Anne is determined to help with the school needs, and help create
a better connection between the school and the church, mainly by
supporting each entity as much as possible. In addition, she
wants to look at future goals of the school to see what is viable
and help with whatever the board decides is important to
accomplish. At this point in time, Anne loves being a small part of
this adventure of continuing all the wonderful things happening at
Trinity Lutheran School. Go Lions!!!
